Visitors from Belarus

Once again Brooklyn Studios played host to a party of visitors from Belarus as part of our support for the charity Chernobyl Children’s Project.

Ten excited youngsters, together with their doctor, translator and Hebden Royd host children arrived at Brooklyn Studio, to enjoy a day of creativity on Sunday the 7th of August.

They were greeted by eight of the resident artists who had planned an interesting programme; it commenced with an ice-breaker exercise of drawing each other, and was followed by exciting sessions of drumming and percussion work-shops led by Chris Joyce that lifted the roof, quite a feat as the music studio is in the basement

T-shirt and bag painting proved to be popular with our Gallery wall soon filled with colourful and interesting designs. Other activities included jewellery making, door hangers, and of course painting.

Following a nutritious lunch provided by the Brooklyn members, and funded by our sponsors the day was wound up with a visit by some of the youngsters to the Vintage Car Rally in Calder Holmes Park .

Annie, Hannah, Chris, Pam, Debs, Gay, Nicky, and Sue all helped to give these youngsters a happy and interesting day that finished at 4.00pm – youngsters and helpers alike tired but fulfilled.

Brooklyn members would like to acknowledge our generous sponsors and thank the Bearder Charity, Hebden Royd Town Council, the Rotary Club who admitted the children free of charge to the Vintage Car rally and Helen and Sarah of Spirals for gifts for the children to take home.

For more photos of the day’s activities see our Community Page.

Busy Opening

Friday night saw a whole load of people coming through our red door to preview the Associate members  group exhibition.  There was a great atmosphere with lots of new faces and old friends.

Live music and generous refreshments kept the place buzzing and all agreed that the works on show were of a high standard and a well thought exhibition made best use of the  available space.

Its the first time our Associate Members have put on a group show in the Brooklyn Gallery  so well done them for making it such a success.

Our aim is to make the Associate Members Exhibition an annual event.  More information about Associate Members can be found on their section of this site, just click on the menu at the top.

A Grand Night Out

Our Ceilidh at Mytholmroyd Community Centre last Saturday night was very well attended and enjoyed by all ages.  The smooth wooden floor was perfect for dancing to the lively music provided by Cock O’ The North, and the children made full use of its sliding qualities too!  A tremendous spread of sandwiches and home-made soup kept everyone happy and the bar seemed to be doing a roaring trade.

The raffle provided an opportunity for catching breath, with a huge range of desirable prizes, including a fantastic ticket from Northern Rail giving a whole months free travel throughout the region for a lucky family.  All in all a very successful evening where a modest profit will help us improve the facilities we can offer artists at Brooklyn Studios.

Music and Picture at the Brooklyn on 27th November!

 What an evening!

Michael Bassett from New York, and his friend Eleanor Davis
